The islands lay some 20km off Kuala Besut on the Peninsula Malaysia’s
northeastern coast. They form the northernmost part of Terengganu
Marine Park, which also comprises a number of other islands; Pulau
Lang Tengah, Pulau Redang, Pulau Bidong and Pulau Tenggol.
Perhentian Islands comprises two main islands – Perhentian
Besar (big island) and Perhentian Kecil (small island). Both surrounded
by beautiful white sandy beaches and brilliant rock formation.
Easily one of the most beautiful islands in the world, Perhentian
Island offers a memorable holiday to thousands of holidaymakers and
travelers each and every year. For some…. the island become
their second home!

How to get there...
From Kuala Lumpur International Airport you can get a flight to
Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Available domestic flights are provided by
Malaysia Airline System and AirAsia's low cost flight. You can book
the ticket online. If you are really on budget, better get the AirAsia
flight. From Kota Bharu airport, you get a taxi direct to Kuala Besut
(NOT Tok Bali jetty). Kuala Besut is a small town and it is the nearest
gateway to Perhentian Island from the mainland. A boat services are
available from selective travel agent. A further more 21 KM, then
you'll arrive at the island.
From Kuala Lumpur International Aiport, you can get a Kuala Lumpur
City Express to KL Sentral. At KL Sentral you can get a train from
Kuala Lumpur Station to Tanah Merah Station in Kelantan. You can
check out the train schedule at KTM's
website. From Tanah Merah you
need to take a bus or taxi towards Kuala Besut. In Kuala Besut you
can make a hotel reservation and buy a boat ticket from the local
travel operators.
By bus; get an express bus from Hentian Putra Terminal Kuala Lumpur.
A few different express bus companies travel directly from Kuala
Lumpur to Kuala Besut jetty.
Driving from Kuala Lumpur; You can easily drive up to Kuala Besut
through the Gua Musang National Highway. The nice scenic drive will
take about 7 to 8 hours to get to Kuala Besut.
First, you need to get to Batu Cave, from there, look for the sign
towards Kuantan. Follow the highway until you pass 2 tolls. After
the second toll (about 9 km) look for Bentong exit. From Bentong – Raub – Kuala
Lipis – Gua Musang – Kuala Krai – Machang – Jerteh – Kuala
Besut. There are plenty of daily pay parking places in Kuala Besut.
Usually cost RM5.00 per day during high-season.
When is the best time to enjoy your vacation ?
From February to October
Cash, travel cheque or credit card...
You need to bring cash or credit card. A limited business premise
will accepting your credit card. You can change your travel cheque
at selective bank in Jerteh. Jerteh is a small town located 12 KM
from Kuala Besut.
Useful facts about the islands:
- Local Currency: Malaysian Ringgit (RM). US$ 1.00 is about
RM 3.60.
- Language: Bahasa Malaysia (similar to Bahasa Indonesia),
English is widely understood and spoken.
- No bank or ATM machine or licensed moneychanger available on the
island.
- Very few resort/chalet operations accept credit card, travelers’ cheque
or foreign currency (be prepared to bring extra cash). We do
accept all of them!
- Some resorts only have electricity from 1900 hours to 0000 hours.
- Mode of transportation: sea taxi (no car, no bike!)
